GE Energy announces details on upcoming home V2H/V2G charging products

General Energy has announced product details for its forthcoming Ultium Home EV charging product suite. These will constitute the first solutions offered to residential customers through General Energy, a wholly-owned subsidiary of General Motors integrating electric vehicles and solar power generation. Whilst General Motors remains focused on electric vehicles, this subsidiary concentrates on advancing bidirectional charging, vehicle-to-home (V2H) and vehicle-to-grid (V2G) applications.

Foreign media reports indicate General Motors Energy’s initial products will enable customers to utilise vehicle-to-home (V2H) bidirectional charging technology, stationary storage, and other energy management solutions. This option aims to deliver greater energy independence, allowing backup power to meet essential household needs when grid energy is unavailable.

Each Ultium Home product will connect to the GM Energy Cloud, a software platform enabling customers to manage energy transfers between applicable and connected GM Energy assets.

SunPower will help GM develop and later install a home energy system consisting of an integrated electric vehicle and battery solution, solar panels, and home energy storage. The new system, which will provide vehicle-to-home services, is expected to launch in 2024.

GM Energy is focused on developing its energy ecosystem through new products, software, and services. This includes expanding public charging infrastructure and developing new energy management solutions for commercial and residential customers.

“As GM Energy’s ecosystem of connected products and services continues to expand, we’re excited to offer customers energy management options beyond the vehicle,” said Wade Schaefer, vice president of GM Energy. “Our initial Ultium Home offering provides customers with an opportunity to take greater control of their personal energy independence and resiliency.”
