Britain to invest £4 billion to add 100,000 charging stations
On 16 June, the UK government announced on the 13th that it would invest £4 billion to support the transition to electric vehicles. This funding will be used to install 100,000 electric vehicle charging points across England, with the majority targeting drivers without private roadside parking spaces.

Lilian Greenwood, Minister for Future of Roads, stated that the government has allocated £4 billion (approximately RMB 38.952 billion) to promote electric vehicle adoption. This funding will more than double the current number of public charging points from 80,000, enabling electric vehicle owners without private roadside parking to achieve ‘home charging’.

Taxpayers will not bear the full cost of this initiative. England plans to leverage the £381 million (approximately RMB 3.71 billion) Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (LEVI) fund to attract up to £6 billion (approximately RMB 58.428 billion) in ‘significant private investment’ by 2030.

Charging infrastructure firm Believ has recently announced a £300 million investment (approximately RMB 2.921 billion) to install 30,000 charging points across the UK. IT Home notes that while this investment excludes Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, these regions possess independent dedicated funding for road transport electrification.
