How to Use CCS2 to CHAdeMO EV Adapter for Japan EV Car ?

The CCS2 to CHAdeMO EV adapter allows you to charge CHAdeMO-compatible EVs at CCS2 fast-charging stations. This is especially useful in regions like Europe, where CCS2 has become the mainstream standard.

Below is a guide to using the adapter, including important precautions and precautions. Always refer to the adapter manufacturer’s specific instructions, as the procedure may vary.

Before You Begin
Safety First: Ensure the adapter and charging station cables are in good condition and free of visible damage.

Vehicle Preparation:

Turn off your vehicle’s dashboard and ignition.

Make sure the vehicle is in Park (P).
For some vehicles, you may need to press the start button once to put it into the correct charging mode.

Adapter Power Supply (if applicable): Some adapters require a separate 12V power source (e.g., a cigarette lighter socket) to power the internal electronics that convert the communication protocol. Check if this step is required for your adapter and follow the instructions.

Charging Process

Connecting the Adapter to Your Vehicle:
Remove the CCS2 to CHAdeMO Adapter and carefully insert the CHAdeMO plug into your vehicle’s CHAdeMO charging port.
Push it in firmly until you hear a click, confirming the locking mechanism is engaged.
Connecting the CCS2 Charger to the Adapter:
Remove the CCS2 plug from the charging station.
Insert the CCS2 plug into the CCS2 receptacle on the adapter.
Make sure it is fully inserted and locked. A light (e.g., a flashing green light) may illuminate on the adapter to indicate that the connection is ready.

Starting Charging:

Follow the instructions on the charging station’s screen.
This usually requires using the charging station’s app, RFID card, or credit card to start charging.
After connecting the plug, you typically have a limited time (e.g., 90 seconds) to begin charging. If charging fails, you may need to unplug and reinsert the connector and try again.

Monitoring the Charging Process:

Once charging begins, the adapter and charging station will communicate to supply power to your vehicle. Keep an eye on the charging station screen or your vehicle’s dashboard to monitor charging status and speed.

Ending Charging
Stop Charging:

End the charging process through the charging station app or by pressing the “Stop” button on the charging station.

Some adapters also have a dedicated button to stop charging.

Disconnecting:

First, unplug the CCS2 connector from the adapter. You may need to hold down the unlock button on the adapter while unplugging.

Next, unplug the adapter from the vehicle.

Important Notes and Limitations
Charging Speed: When using a CCS2 charger rated for high output power (such as 100 kW or 350 kW), the actual charging speed will be limited by your vehicle’s maximum CHAdeMO charging speed. Most CHAdeMO-equipped vehicles are limited to around 50 kW. The adapter’s power rating also plays a role; many are rated up to 250 kW.

Compatibility: While these adapters are designed for broad compatibility, some charging station brands or models may experience specific issues due to differences in firmware and communication protocols. Some adapters may require a firmware update to improve compatibility.

Adapter Power: Some adapters have a small built-in battery to power their electronics. If the adapter has not been used for an extended period, you may need to charge this battery via the USB-C port before use.

Manufacturer Support: Always purchase your adapter from a reputable manufacturer and check their support channels and firmware updates. Compatibility issues are a common cause of charging failures.

Safety: Always follow the safety guidelines provided by the adapter manufacturer. This includes handling with care, avoiding contact with water, and ensuring a secure connection to prevent electrical hazards.

By following the steps below and paying attention to the adapter’s specific instructions, you can successfully use your CCS2 to CHAdeMO adapter to expand your charging options.
