ChargePoint and Eaton launch ultra-fast charging architecture

ChargePoint, a leading provider of electric vehicle charging solutions, and Eaton, a leading intelligent power management company, announced on August 28 the launch of an ultra-fast charging architecture with end-to-end power infrastructure for public charging and fleet applications. ChargePoint Express Grid, powered by Eaton, is a vehicle-to-everything (V2X)-enabled solution that can deliver up to 600 kilowatts of power to passenger electric vehicles and megawatt-scale charging for heavy commercial vehicles.

The innovative integration of ChargePoint Express charging points with Eaton’s end-to-end electrical solutions provides a robust solution for overcoming grid constraints, addressing the challenge of delivering scalable charging services for the growing fleet of electric vehicles in a cost-effective manner. Leveraging Eaton’s “Everything as a Grid” philosophy and integrated V2G capabilities, the system seamlessly synchronises on-site renewable energy, energy storage, and vehicle batteries with local energy markets, enabling fleets to significantly reduce refuelling costs. When deployed at scale with participating utilities, this combined architecture can even assist in grid balancing.

‘The new ChargePoint Express architecture, particularly the Express Grid version, will deliver unprecedented levels of performance and cost efficiency for DC fast charging. This latest technological breakthrough further underscores our commitment to innovation,’ stated Rick Wilmer, Chief Executive Officer of ChargePoint. ‘Combined with Eaton’s end-to-end grid capabilities, ChargePoint is delivering solutions that enable electric vehicles to win on pure economics, without relying on tax incentives or government subsidies.’

Accelerating large-scale electrification depends on disruptive technologies from trusted manufacturers that can be deployed faster while delivering greater reliability and efficiency at significantly reduced costs,” said Paul Ryan, Vice President and General Manager of Eaton’s Energy Transformation business. ‘Our collaboration with ChargePoint acts as an accelerator for electrification innovation, where our new technologies today and tomorrow will make electrification the sensible choice.’

Eaton will custom-design each Express system, delivering comprehensive turnkey power infrastructure with optional skid-mounted solutions to expedite installation, reduce equipment requirements, and simplify grid and distributed energy resource (DER) integration. Eaton also plans to commercialise solid-state transformer technology next year through its recent acquisition of Resilient Power Systems Inc., supporting DC applications in the electric vehicle market and beyond. Select customers in North America and Europe may order the Express solution, with deliveries commencing in the second half of 2026.
