Charging pile exports to Southeast Asia: these policies you need to know
The Thai government announced that new energy vehicles imported into Thailand between 2022 and 2023 will enjoy a 40% discount on import taxes, and key components such as batteries will be exempt from import taxes. Compared to the 8% consumption tax on conventional vehicles, new energy vehicles will enjoy a preferential tax rate of 2%. According to the Electric Vehicle Association of Thailand, as of the end of December 2022, there were 3,739 public charging stations in Thailand. Of these, 2,404 were slow-charging (AC) stations and 1,342 were fast-charging (DC) stations. Among the fast-charging stations, 1,079 had DC CSS2 interfaces and 263 had DC CHAdeMO interfaces.
Thailand Board of Investment:
Investment projects for electric vehicle charging stations with no fewer than 40 charging points, where DC fast-charging points constitute 25% or more of the total, shall be entitled to a five-year corporate income tax exemption. comprising at least 25% of the total charging points. Investment projects for electric vehicle charging stations with fewer than 40 charging points may enjoy a three-year corporate income tax exemption. Two eligibility criteria for these incentives have been removed: the prohibition on investors simultaneously claiming additional incentives from other agencies, and the requirement for ISO standard (ISO 18000) certification. The removal of these two conditions will enable charging points to be installed in other locations such as hotels and apartments. Furthermore, the Investment Promotion Board will implement multiple support measures to ensure the rapid expansion of the charging infrastructure network. Ministry of Energy, Office of Energy Policy and Planning: The Electric Vehicle Public Charging Station Development Plan aims to add 567 charging stations over the next eight years, reaching 2030. This will increase the total number of charging stations from the current 827 to 1,304, providing nationwide coverage. A further 13,251 charging points will be added, including 505 public charging stations in major cities with 8,227 points, alongside 62 public charging stations and 5,024 charging points along motorways. National Electric Vehicle Policy Committee: The Support Measures for Electric Vehicles, Covering Pure Electric Cars, Motorcycles and Pickup Trucks, set a target for electric vehicles to account for at least 30% of national vehicle production by 2030.
