How long does it take to charge with an e-bus pantograph?
The charging time depends on the battery capacity and the charging power. With our e-bus pantographs, which are specially designed for fast charging, charging times of just a few minutes are possible. An electric bus takes 5 to 15 minutes to charge using an opportunity pantograph system, providing enough power for another route lap.
Automated operation thanks to autonomous charging processes
Fast charging, ideal for short stops
Sequential charging overnight
Flexible use for roof loading or inverted loading
Maximum compatibility with vehicles of different brands
Long operating times for your e-bus fleet
Charging Speeds by Use Case
- · Opportunity Charging (En-Route): Takes 5 to 15 minutes. It utilizes high power outputs (150 kW to 600 kW) to top up the battery by 10% to 30% during scheduled driver breaks or passenger boarding at terminal stops.
- · Depot Charging (Overnight): Takes 2 to 4 hours. It utilizes lower power outputs (50 kW to 150 kW) to safely charge the entire bus fleet from 0% to 100% while parked overnight.
Key Factors Affecting Charge Time
- · Charger Power Output: A 600 kW charger transfers energy four times faster than a 150 kW charger.
- · Battery State of Charge (SoC): Batteries charge much faster between 20% and 80% capacity than they do from 80% to 100%.
- · Battery Chemistry and Capacity: Larger battery packs or packs with lower maximum charge-acceptance rates require more time.
- · Weather and Temperature: Extreme heat or cold triggers automatic thermal management systems, reducing power intake to protect the battery.
