How fast is 400kw DC EV charging station?
A 400kW DC charger can charge an EV to 80% in 15 to 30 minutes, but the actual speed depends on the vehicle's charging capacity and the current state of the battery. Vehicles with lower maximum charging capacity will not charge faster simply because of a more powerful charger. Some vehicles may not be able to handle the full 400kW charge, while others utilize a high-voltage architecture, such as some Hyundai and Kia models.
Factors Affecting Charging Speed
Vehicle's Maximum DC Charging Capability: The vehicle's electronics determine the maximum power it can accept. If a vehicle's maximum power is 170kW, it won't charge any faster with a 400kW charger than with an 180kW charger.
Battery Charge Current: As the battery becomes fully charged, the charging rate naturally decreases to protect it from damage.
Battery Temperature: Cold weather significantly reduces charging speed.
Voltage: Vehicles with an 800V architecture (such as the Kia EV6 and Hyundai Ioniq 5) can accept higher charging rates than those with a 400V architecture.
